Konjungtivitis adalah peradangan konjungtiva yang dipicu mikroorganisme (virus atau bakteri), iritasi, atau reaksi alergi 1. Penularannya lewat kontak langsung dengan sumber infeksi, dan semua kelompok umur bisa terkena 1. Keluhan khasnya mata merah, berair, gatal, dan terasa mengganjal, kadang disertai sekret, sementara tajam penglihatan tetap normal 1. Kompetensi dokter umum 4A, jadi kasus ini dituntaskan di layanan primer 12.

Tiga bentuk dibedakan, masing-masing dengan pola sekret dan tanda penyerta sendiri 1:

• Bakterial.
• Viral.
• Alergi.

Rujuk bila kornea ikut terkena atau bila pengobatan yang sudah diberikan tidak memperbaiki keluhan 1. Konjungtivitis gonore pada bayi baru lahir adalah pengecualian dan harus dirujuk, karena jalur terapi untuk bentuk itu tidak lengkap pada pedoman 1.

Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the conjunctiva triggered by micro-organisms (viral or bacterial), by irritation, or by an allergic reaction 1. It spreads through direct contact with the source of infection and can affect any age group 1. The typical complaint is a red, watery, itchy eye with a foreign body sensation, sometimes with discharge, while visual acuity stays normal 1. General practitioner competency is 4A, so the case is completed in primary care 12.

Three forms are separated, each with its own discharge pattern and accompanying signs 1:

• Bacterial.
• Viral.
• Allergic.

Refer if the cornea becomes involved or if the treatment already given produces no improvement 1. Gonococcal conjunctivitis in a newborn is the exception and must be referred, because the treatment pathway for that form is incomplete in the guideline 1.
